JERSEYVILLE (KMOV.com) -

From the Metro East to Mexico, a direct link will soon bring hundreds of jobs to Jerseyville, Illinois.

"This is real, this is real," says Jerseyville Mayor Billy Russell.

A town of approximately 8,000 residents is now primed for a freight railroad development that promises up to a thousand jobs, according to the mayor.

“Good paying jobs, good paying jobs with long-term stability,” said Mayor Russell.

The Kansas City Southern Railroad which extends deep into Mexico is the driving force in the development along with private investment.

Targeting Jerseyville as a prime place for a distribution center, a local resident Adam Rothe says he hope’s there more to come.

“There’s a lot of opportunity especially with farmers potentially if that would be able to haul grain and stuff like that,” said Rothe.

Exact details on the project are expected to be released on March 2.
