25 arrested in Soulard during Mardi Gras celebrations

ST.LOUIS, Mo., (KMOV.com) – Thousands gathered alongside the Mardi Gras parade route in Soulard to catch beads and see the colorful floats despite the bitter cold temperatures Saturday.

“Everything has been well, everybody has been enjoying themselves peacefully,”  St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden said during a news briefing.

Hayden said the crowds behaved and the festivities went smoothly but officers arrested a total of 25 people. 

Overall, arrests were down compared to previous years. 

The majority of the arrests resulted from minors in possession of alcohol and for having false identifications.

Police said 20 arrests were for minors in possession, one arrest was for drugs, one arrest for for general peace disturbance, one arrest was for assault and two arrests were for trespassing.
