HIGH RIDGE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A post on the JeffCo 411 Facebook page got quite a response Wednesday.

A picture went up on the page of a roadway, with three camels strolling down the side of the pavement. The caption was straightforward: "Anyone missing some camels?"

“The hump day comments were rather priceless. They were hilarious,” said Sandra Wiseman, manager of S+S Farms Exotic Petting Zoo. “Yes, there are camels in Jefferson County.”

Wiseman says late Wednesday afternoon the camels had been fed, but a family member may not have latched the gate properly and that's when Jersey, Joe and Jed decided to head out for a stroll.

It wasn't long before their picture was posted on social media, but the camels are used to the attention. Jersey, Joe and Jed make appearances all around the St. Louis area, helping people who need a connection with an animal.

“We do special needs. With Joe, he does wheelchairs. We do Shriner's Hospital, Camp Wonderland, they're around people all the time,” Wiseman said. “They’re very docile animals.”

She says the three made it perhaps half a mile from the barn and were gone for less than an hour. In fact, it's not clear if they were ever off her two hundred acre property.

“They took off, went up the hill, smiled real pretty for the camera and came home,” Wiseman said.

She says her son contacted her after seeing the post and she went down to the barn to get their harnesses to go get them, but at that point they had already returned.
