ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters is launching a new retail concept that's the first of its kind in St. Charles County.

Small business owners and entrepreneurs can rent out a pop-up shop space on the mall's second floor, the Dillard's wing for up to two weeks. The space has been vacant for over a year since The Limited moved all their retail to online-only a few years ago.

The space is designed for anyone to rent including local designers, clothing manufacturers, jewelry makers, multi-level marketing entrepreneurs, home-based businesses, and even non-profits.

"You can host an event, a blood drive even. We'll consider any use," said Justine Robinson, the Mid Rivers Mall leasing manager. She said the only exception would be if a business strongly competes with another one already in the mall, which could be detrimental to their sales.

Robinson notes that the mall makes it easy for these temporary vendors by providing hangers, mannequins and branding.

"All utilities, signage on the windows, on posters and you also get additional marketing efforts," said Robinson, which includes mentions on their website and social media pages.

Two businesses are sharing the space for the first week of the pop-up shop. One business is "Revolution" which sells hand-sewn clothing, designed by Bailey Smith.

"I do yoga wear and 1970s inspired stuff," said Smith.

She also sews her clothes using all-natural fabrics.

The other business is "Wandering Ash Tree" by Ashlee Potter, who sells hand-sewn genuine leather products.

"People can still have that good quality item, but not be out hundreds of dollars," said Potter, whose medium-size leather handbag goes for $150.

Both young business owners never thought their first store exposure would be in a giant mall.

"I mean I never thought I'd be in a mall," said Potter. "That's pretty cool."

"Having this opportunity in this beautiful store....it's amazing," said Smith.

Both Smith and Potter grew up shopping at Mid Rivers Mall and think pop-up stores are the direction more malls should go.

"It's really going to draw a lot of people in. I think there's a push for that lately," said Potter.

The hope is for small businesses to get noticed and for the mall to connect with more of the community they are located in.

"To be back here to be a vendor is just mind-blowing," said Smith.

The pop-up space costs $300 to rent for each week, Monday - Sunday. Vendors can rent the space multiple weeks throughout the year, but only two weeks in a row.
