Lunchtime is a special time in the Orchard Farm School District because administrators are on a mission.
Over the course of this school year, administrators will have lunch with every single student. Small groups of students get to eat with the principal, assistant principal or school counselor.
The principal says the Lunch Bunches program is especially important this year because school boundaries were redrawn leading to changes in the student body.
“We started with 520 students and 60 percent were brand new to the building, so this is a strategy that we came up with to reach out to get to know those students and to build relationships and build a strong school community that we can value,” said Orchard Farm Elementary Principal Jerry Oetting.
Administrators say students and their parents really like the idea.
Several third graders told News 4 one of their favorite parts of the Lunch Bunch us getting a break from the noisy cafeteria.
