(CNN/Meredith) – Haleigh Morrissey loves her engagement ring, but for more than 48 hours, she thought it was gone for good.

On Saturday, she accidentally flushed it down the toilet after her fiancé left it by the sink to dry.

Panic set in for fiancé Dean Booras, "I thought there is no chance in the world that we were ever gonna see it again."

The couple's neighbors quickly rallied to help. They got a camera, found the right sewer pipe and started digging, cutting, and sifting through the sewage.

"I had to watch a bunch of YouTube videos to know how to use the snake with a wand," said neighbor Brett Gunari.

But after extensive efforts, no ring was uncovered.

Then a neighbor, Ken Gunari, who's a building inspector, had one last idea.

"Turn on the bathtub, flush the toilet, dump the two-five gallon buckets of water into the toilet all at once."

And two hundred feet down the line, Ken screamed - "oh man look at that! Woo-hoo!"

There it was, at last, the team spotted Haleigh’s ring.

It was definitely dirty, a little dinged up, but Haleigh says she’s relieved it’s still intact.
