CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Group seen pulling on car doors before gunshots ring out

FOX10 News is committed to putting the spotlight on people "Caught in the Act”. Each week, we work with local law enforcement to show surveillance video in the hopes that you can help crack the case.

Mobile Police are looking for people of interest seen walking around a neighborhood just before residents heard gunshots.

Residents of Hunters Ridge in West Mobile say the neighborhood is normally quiet, but one morning, neighbors were startled by gunshots around 4:30 a.m.

"I jumped out of bed! I thought somebody was breaking in the house,” said one man who didn’t want to be identified. “I went out this morning and found these four, 45-caliber bullet casings."

While there's no surveillance video showing the shots being fired, another neighbor across the street caught a group of young men walking into his carport just a few minutes before residents heard the shots.

"They weren't there long, but it looks like he was fixing to get my bike and the other two were checking the cars and checking the doors,” said the homeowner, who also didn’t want to be identified. "As the one was just about ready to pull the bicycle out, he looked up and saw the cameras, and flagged everybody to leave at that time."

Mobile Police say a few houses away, a woman awoke that same morning to find her car doors open and $20 missing from inside.

While it is still unclear if the group in the surveillance video is directly related to the vehicle break-in or the shots fired, the homeowners want you to take a good look at this video and if you recognize them, give Mobile Police a call.

“It makes you feel violated when someone is on your property. They don't respect what other people have,” said the homeowner. "All we can do is put cameras up and try to catch them."
