COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) –  Making music means more than picking up an instrument for most teenagers. However,  some Metro East students are taking their innovative ideas to the next level.

Students at Collinsville High School were challenged to make musical instruments by using science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) techniques on Jan. 30.

Students used special software to design and build small instruments at a ‘Create Music- STEM’ Camp. The instruments were created by utilizing a 3-D printer at the camp.

Freshman Lorenzzi Zappa said students wrote music and created an app for music lovers to enjoy more music.

“Right now we are working on an app, anything, to create music, listen to [music],” Zappa said.
