PEVELY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Forty-five-year-old Stephen Vandemark is facing a charge of second-degree domestic assault after an incident at his family's home Monday.

According to Pevely Police Detective Sgt. Larry Miller, Vandemark was upset with his wife over plans to sell their home. Miller told News 4 that Vandemark punched, kicked and choked his wife. He also allegedly threw her down a flight of stairs.

The victim suffered a broken hand and numerous scrapes and bruises, according to investigators.

Officials said the victim was eventually able to get a phone and call the police. Miller said Vandekamp left the home in his vehicle, but was spotted by an officer, and after a short chase, the suspect stopped and was taken into custody.

Miller said officers searched the suspect's car and found three handguns, a rifle, a BB gun and 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

Vandekamp is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
