A Union man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a two-year-old boy.
Austin Stonebarger, 23, is in custody at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. His cash-only bond is set at $500,000.
Union police said officers responded to a home on Henry Dr. for a two-year-old boy that was not conscious or breathing.
Officers said they attempted CPR, and then the boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said when they arrived at the scene, they noticed many bruises on the child's body.
The child had been left with the mother's boyfriend, Stonebarger, for most of the day.
Police said when they spoke to Stonebarger, he gave inconsistent stories. When asked about why his stories were inconsistent, police said Stonebarger admitted that he pushed the child, causing the boy to hit his head. He also admitted to disciplining the child the day before, which caused the bruising, police said.
Police also said Stonebarger was using methamphetamine for the last couple of days.
