Belleville man arrested after child abuse investigation

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Belleville police charged a 22-year-old father Friday following a child abuse investigation.

Destin Jackson is charged with Aggravated Battery to a Child. His bond is set at $100,000.

Police responded to the 200 block of Freedom Dr. in Belleville Jan. 31 in reference to an incident of child abuse.

When officers responded, they found a 4-month-old girl at the home alone with Jackson, her father. The baby was conscious and breathing.

According to Belleville police, officers took the infant into protective custody, and then she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Jackson was taken into custody at the scene.

Police said the baby is still at the hospital in stable condition.
