VALLEY PARK (KMOV.com) -

A 17-year-old boy was arrested after police say he made threats Wednesday in the Valley Park School District.

Darrell Ward is charged with making a terrorist threat.

Parents told News 4 the school notified them around 6 p.m. Wednesday night through a voicemail robo call.

St. Louis County Police officers were called to all of the schools to provide additional security.

The Valley Park School District posted to Facebook concerning the threats:

Lili Schliesser, spokesperson for the Valley Park School District says they immediately contacted police once they heard about the threats from parents and students.

They chose to continue classes the next day after talking to investigators.

"It (the decision) was absolutely with all the information they needed to make that call," said Schliesser. "They never believed, we never believed that there was any real threat to the school today.  If we had thought that we would not have been in session."

St. Louis Police will continue providing additional security throughout the weekend as students participate in homecoming activities, assuring the community that doesn't believe anyone is in danger.

The FBI is working with local law enforcement with this investigation.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office is handling the case.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
