ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- St. Charles County officers responded to an area near a gas station in Weldon Spring, Missouri Thursday afternoon following a report that a suicidal person had an explosive device.

St. Charles County police said the situation played out near the Shell gas station on Highway 94, north of Interstate 64.

Police said they had been involved in a standoff with the man and were eventually able to take him into custody behind a Jack in the Box.

A bomb squad was called to remove a World War II Bazooka Round left inside the man's vehicle. Nearby employees and residents were evacuated.

Police say the car was parked behind Tender Care Animal Hospital hospital next to the gas station.

According to Jack-in-the-Box employees who share a lot with the animal hospital, officers came in during lunch hour and told them to shut down and have everyone vacate the premises.

After a few hours, employees were allowed to re-open the restaurant.

The military will investigate to see if the bazooka round is live.
