Madison fire crews calling origin of house fire 'suspicious', 1 in custody

Metro East fire crews responded to a house fire that broke out around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The home, located in the 1700 block of Market in Madison, was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Fire crews say the homeowner was staying with her daughter at the time the fire started.

First responders say no one was hurt. SkyZoom 4 was able to capture video of a person being taken away from the scene in handcuffs. News 4 has learned that police have a ‘person of interest’ in custody. Police and fire crews are saying the origin of the fire is suspicious. Illinois State Fire Marshalls will now investigate how the fire started.
