Farmington man sentenced to 8 years for role in 2016 murder

FARMINGTON, Mo., (KMOV.com) – A Farmington man was sentenced to eight years in prison after entering a guilty plea for his connection with a 2016 murder of a businessman.

Jeremy Reed, 38, of Farmington pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and tampering with physical evidence.

Reed was arrested after a pursuit ended on Highway 67 near Desloge in St. Francois County in Nov. 2016. The driver of the vehicle fled, while the passenger, Reed was apprehended by officers.

The driver was later identified a 29-year-old Anthony Caruthers.

After the chase, Missouri State troopers located the body of 46-year-old Michael Vanstarvern in the trunk.

The Park Hills Daily Journal reports Reed was attempting to help dispose of the body with Caruthers after breaking into Vanstarvern's apartment.
