IMPERIAL, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A woman was taken into custody after a homeowner found her living in his garage and wearing his clothes Monday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
Around 6: 00 a.m., officers were called to investigate an active burglary at a home on Dry Fork Rd in Imperial, Mo.
A man entered his garage to leave for work when he noticed the woman lying in a makeshift bed in his garage.
Detectives said the woman had turned on a stove located in the garage and was wearing a newly purchased T-shirt that was left in the man's work van.
The woman gained entry to the garage after finding a garage door opener in a unlocked work van in the driveway, according to authorities.
According to investigators, the home owner found various trash left behind by the suspect prior to discovering her. He said he found an empty pizza box, wrappers, open soda cans and pack of cigarettes scattered in the garage.
At this time it's still unknown how long the woman was living in the garage.
No charges have been filed against the woman yet.
