An Indiana man has been indicted on a federal kidnapping charge for allegedly abducting a child in broad daylight in Illinois.
The kidnapping happened Dec. 20 on a neighborhood street in Calumet City, which is near the Chicago area.
The abduction was captured on security camera video from a neighboring residence.
In the video, at the 0:25 mark, the child enters the view of the camera. At the 0:37 mark, the man is seen grabbing the child and then shoving her into his vehicle.
Bryan Protho, 38, of East Chicago, Indiana, was arrested Dec. 27. He remains in federal custody.
Protho allegedly grabbed the child as she walked on the sidewalk and forced her into his vehicle and drove away, security footage shows.
According to the indictment, Protho parked the vehicle in an alley and allegedly assaulted the child.
The child was able to escape and flag down a driver in a passing vehicle, who then called police.
Protho is charged with one count of kidnapping, which carries a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
