(Meredith) – A 15-year-old girl who was killed in the Marshall County High School shooting in Kentucky called her parents right before she died.
According to ABC News, Bailey Holt was one of two students killed during the shooting. Holt was described as a “sweet child who loved to help others.”
"Even though she was 15, she had already decided her career was going to be a labor and delivery nurse," Bailey’s mother, Secret Holt, told WKRN. "She helped others. She was just so kind-hearted and the most amazing kid anybody could ever ask for. Her smile could light up the room."
Bailey was killed after a classmate allegedly opened fire, killing her and another classmate. 18 other students were injured during the attack.
Secret Holt said when Bailey called her, all she could hear were voices in the background.
"She couldn't say anything and I tried to call her name over and over and over and she never responded,” Secret told ABC News and WKRN. "We rushed to the high school, and they wouldn't let us get through.”
Secret and her husband, Jasen, were waiting for their Bailey to step off a school bus full of survivors who were being transported to another school for safety. Their worst fears were confirmed when the principal of the school approached them.
"We waited and waited for her to get off the buses and she never did," Secret Holt told WKRN. "The principal at North Marshall came and got me, and took us outside and we got in a cop car and they took us to the fire department and told us what had happened."
Jasen said her daughter was “an angel here on earth” and “was perfect in every way.”
Despite their tragic loss, Secret said she would pray for the 15-year-old male suspect, but is unsure if she will ever have the ability to face him.
“If he needed a friend, I know she (Bailey) would've been a friend to him and talked to him about anything he needed,” she told WKRN. “Because that's just the kind of person she was."
