ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A 28-year-old man has been charged with one count of assault on a special victim and one count of felony resisting arrest in after he rammed a K9 unit squad car, police say.

Nicholas Settles was arrested after sending police on a bi-state chase Wednesday night.

Police said officers in North County spotted a car that had been stolen from Alton. When officers tried to stop the car, police said the suspect rammed the vehicle into a marked St. Louis County Police K9 Unit car, reversed and rammed into the car again. The suspect hit the cruiser a third time while trying to get away, police said.

Settles led officers on a chase through St. Louis City and into Alton, Illinois, where police say the suspect may have hit an Illinois police car.

Police say Settles was transported to a local hospital shortly after the chase.

Settles is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
