MOLINE ACRES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Two men are charged in connection with an armed robbery and chase that occurred on Wednesday.

Matthew Smith, 31, of Alton, is charged with robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon. Lee Perry, 36, of Wood River is charged with resisting arrest.

Police say Smith robbed a Conoco gas in Moline Acres around 4:00 p.m. and got into a car being driven by Perry.

A nearby officer saw Smith get into the car and tried to stop the car, but Perry kept driving leading officers on a chase, police said.

The pursuit went into Illinois and stopped shortly after the suspect vehicle became disabled in the area of Enviro Way and Dubois Trail in Wood River, Illinois.

Both were arrested.

A gun and stolen items from the robbery were recovered.

No officers were injured.
