LAFAYETTE, MO (KMOV.com) -- The Lafayette High School cafeteria is gaining national attention for a sandwich created for their school’s lunch menu.

Cafeteria Manager Kim Moore and her team were the innovators behind the Italian Panini, which became an instant hit with students at Lafayette. The sandwich consists of ham, cheese, salami, lettuce, tomato, black olives, pickles, banana peppers, and rosemary infusion.

Kim decided to enter the Italian Panini into a Pillsbury sandwich competition to find the country’s best sandwiches. Their sandwich snagged one of the top spots and has received national notoriety.

The creators of the Italian Panini were awarded an over-sized gift basket for their work and national bragging rights.
