ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Volunteers will be counting the number of homeless people living in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Clair County Thursday.

The Point in Time Homeless Count is part of a federal mandate. The number of homeless helps determine how much money is given to cities to fight homelessness.

The group of volunteers will go all over, including libraries, MetroLink stations and emergency rooms to try and identify anyone who is homeless or unsheltered. They will also help connect them to services and resources to help them move from homelessness to stable housing.

Last year, St. Louis County was awarded $2.4 million from the federal government to help with homelessness.
