HAZELWOOD, Mo., (KMOV.com)--  The Hazelwood School District is looking at the option of redistricting.

It’s hosting a number of informational meetings where parents can ask questions and give feedback. The district describes this as the beginning of a three year process.

“Understand right now we are just studying,” said Chris Norman, Hazelwood CFO/Assistant Superintendent for Finance Facilities. “We have not made any decisions yet. We're taking all the information from the student data, the mapping data and engagement sessions to start looking at making decisions,” added Norman.

This school year (2017-2018) will serve as a time to study and discuss, the next school year (2018-2019) would be when a plan would be developed and if the district decides to redistrict then the 2019-2020 school year would be when the new plan would start.

“We had the economic downturn and like many districts Hazelwood had anticipated additional students, now we have not loss students, but it’s stayed more stable rather than seeing any increases and because of that pattern and enrollment shifts that we’ve seen we now have schools with varying sizes of enrollment,” Norman said.

Norman encourages parents to get involved in the process and there are two more meeting options available to attend.
