MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

A man is behind bars after investigators said he set fire to a local tire shop Monday morning, January 22.

Investigators said unbelievable surveillance video helped them track down the arson suspect, and FOX10 News obtained a copy of that video exclusively.

The crime occurred at the Affordable Car Tires shop on Dauphin Island Parkway.

Firefighters responded quickly, putting the blaze out before it could cause too much damage.

"They reported smoke showing when they arrived on scene, and they immediately knocked the small amount of fire that they had down," said Terry Sexton with Mobile Fire Rescue.

Then, thanks to the surveillance video, investigators say they were able to catch the alleged culprit, 20-year-old Terrance Perkins.

"Actually, the suspect came back to the scene. He was asking about some parts that may have been in the store, that he needed to purchase, and when he came back to the scene, we actually noticed some of the writing on his clothing and kind of put two and two together, and it was like, that's our guy. Then we found him walking in the street maybe 10 minutes later," explained Sexton.

The shop owner told FOX10 News he's thankful for Mobile Fire Rescue's quick work Monday morning.

"The investigator, they stayed on top of it with the Mobile Fire Department, I'm very proud of them," said shop owner Joseph Uptagrafft.

Uptagrafft also said he'll be investing in more surveillance cameras, to ensure any other criminals who come his way will be caught in the act.

In the meantime, Perkins is charged with second-degree arson.

No word on a motive.
