ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating after a vehicle struck five boys, leaving one in critical condition, in north St. Louis Sunday afternoon.
Police said a Kia sedan was traveling southbound on North Hanley Road near Nola Ave when it left the roadway and hit the boys, who were walking in the grassy berm alongside the street.
The driver, a 57-year-old woman, suffered a medical emergency while driving when she veered off the road, according to police.
Four of the boys suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition. The boys were described as being between 9 to 13 years old. Authorities said one boy was seriously injured and is currently in critical, unstable condition.
The driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with police after being treated by first responders.
