ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

A two-car crash in St. Charles County Saturday left one woman dead Saturday afternoon.

Phyliss Heidselman, 82, of Quincy, Illinois was killed in the crash that occurred on Highway 61 at Route W at 1:40 p.m..

Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Heidselman was driving eastbound and pulled into the path of another vehicle traveling southbound, and Heidselman's car was struck on the driver's side.

The driver of the second vehicle, 26-year-old Emily Aubuchon of Silex, MO, has moderate injuries from the accident. She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

It is unknown if Heidselman was wearing a seat belt. Police said Aubuchon was wearing a seat belt.

Moscow Mills mayor, Michael Clynch, said in a letter that improvements are needed to make the Highway  61 corridor safer for motorist.

Clynch proposed a gax tax to provide additional funding for road improvements in Lincoln and St. Charles county.

"If the much talked about funding becomes available, items such as an interchange at Highway W in St Charles County and outer roads connecting the Highway U and C interchanges in Lincoln County must be considered,"  said Clynch.

An effort on behalf of local, state, and federal officials is necessary to make changes that could possibly reduce the number of potential accidents, according to Clynch.

"Bringing both state and federal money in here to do things like outer roads, more overpasses like here at Highway W. Adding more safety will help but its not the final solution," said Clynch.
