ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Gateway Arch and the Old Courthouse are closed due to the shutdown of the federal government. The Arch and the courthouse are both part of the National Park Service.

They will reopen as soon as the government reopens.

For those who have pre-purchased a ticket to ride to the top of the Arch, you will be refunded as soon as possible. The Arch grounds are still available to visit, but visiting inside the Arch is not.

Many people headed to the Arch on Saturday afternoon, one of the warmest days in weeks.

"It’s a beautiful day," said Malkit Singh, who visited the Arch with his wife and infant," it would have been a nice trip up there."

Others were forced to plan another out-of-state visit to get a glimpse from the top.

"I kind of think its unfair to the people who came to see it and then its just shut it down on them?," said Tegan Caughron, who was in town for a dance competition with her parents.

Her teacher at her school in Oklahoma had told her to visit the Arch.

Other Gateway Arch experience activities such as helicopter tours, which are not part of the National Park Service, are still open during this time.
