ST. LOUIS ( -- Outfielder Randal Grichuk has been dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for two right handed pitchers.

The organization announced the deal Friday, just a week after the 26-year-old announced to media he expected to be the team’s fourth outfielder this season.

“Fourth or fifth, and obviously a bat off the bench. Obviously a lot can still happen in the offseason and a lot can happen in spring training. But that's what it's shaping up to look like,” he said. “Obviously any time you lose a starting spot it's disappointing. I felt like last year was kind of up and down, it wasn't consistent enough. We needed an impact bat in the middle of the lineup, and fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, it's an outfielder. It's good for the team, rough for me, but I'll still roll with it.”

He recently got a $2.6 million deal to avoid arbitration.

In return the Cardinals received Dominic Leone and Conner Greene from the Blue Jays.

Leone, 26, pitched in 65 games for the Blue Jays last season, striking out 81 batters in 70.1 innings. He’ll serve as a reliable anchor in a Cardinal bullpen planning to lean heavily on relatively untested youth in 2018.

Leone has strong splits against lefthanded hitters, holding southpaws to a .183 average on the season. He also stranded 78 percent of his inherited runners last season, which ranked fourth among AL relievers.

Greene was a seventh round pick in 2013, and the 22-year-old is currently in Double-A. Despite a 31-31 record and an career ERA of 4.04, he was ranked as the fifth best prospect within the Toronto organization.
