Some middle school students in the Parkway School District are diving into the study of journalism.
They started their new coursework this week as journalists came to their school to talk about what goes into getting a story in the paper, online or on TV.
The eighth graders at Parkway Northeast Middle School are now learning about investigative journalism over the next few weeks. It all part of their English Language Arts classes.
“We think that today especially understanding the process that journalism goes through and figuring out facts from opinions is very important in today’s world,” said English Language Arts teacher Kathryn Hermann. “We want our students to understand the power of a story and how much impact it can have on their lives and other lives.”
Over the next few weeks, the students will each research and write 2-3 news stories.
