ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Two St. Louis-based health care systems are leading a push against surging drug prices.

Ascension and SSM Health are teaming up with Intermountain Healthcare and Trinity Health.

The organizations would create a not-for-profit drug company.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has expressed interest in the initiative. Five systems oversee more than 450 hospitals.

Hospital executives did not name specific drugs they intend to make. Complaints often center on morphine shortages or sudden price increases for products like heart medicine.
