Boy taken into custody after crashing into restaurant following police pursuit

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

ST.LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County Police officers responded to 11000 Dunklin Dr. for a call for a robbery by an armed suspect.

During the incident, the suspect pulled out a large knife and threatened a 47-year-old woman. He proceeded to carjack the victim of her Volkswagen passenger car and fled the scene.

Officers in the area observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the area of West Florissant Avenue and Chambers Rd.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, however the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit began. The pursuit stopped shortly after in an accident at the intersection of West Florissant and Jennings Station Rd.

The suspect attempted a left hand turn onto northbound Jennings Station Rd from the eastbound lanes of West Florissant Ave.

The vehicle lost control and struck the Roper’s Ribs restaurant on West Florissant Rd.

Police say a juvenile boy was taken into custody.

He suffered minor injuries as a result of the traffic accident.

The brick building was damaged including a gas leak. The gas leak was attended to quickly by local fire departments and the gas company.

Police did recover a knife at the scene.

No citizens or officers were injured in the course of the incident.

This investigation remains active at this time and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
