(Meredith) – A 29-year-old single father decided to adopt his three boys because he believes everyone deserves a loving family.
Barry Farmer, of Virginia, became a foster parent eight years ago, first welcoming Jaxon into his home. The boy was 8 years old when Farmer adopted him, and the two became inseparable.
The single father said he developed a bond with his son early on because they have similar backgrounds.
“Personally, I grew in kinship care, which is another form of foster care. My grandmother raised me,” Farmer told Inside Edition. “Her doing that for me, there was no way I could actually pay her back so I decided it’d be a good way to pay it forward.”
His family blossomed over the next four years because Farmer wanted his son to grow up with siblings.
After searching the website “Adopt U.S. Kids,” he found his now-adopted-son Xavier, according to Inside Edition. He officially adopted Xavier in 2015 when the boy was 11 years old.
Farmer had no intentions of adopting a third child soon after, but Jeremiah changed his heart. The young boy, now 8, joined their family just one year later, according to WTVR.
“Fatherhood has brought me lots of joy,” Farmer told the station. “I can’t imagine my sons not being with me.”
He said although being a single parent can be challenging, he loves raising his boys. Farmer said he believes every child deserves the opportunity to flourish.
"There’s no reason to be afraid of our foster children who are waiting to be adopted," Farmer said. "All they need is some security, some love, some attention and stability.”
