(Meredith) – A young man finally met the 81-year-old woman he befriended through an online word game, and now their friendship is melting hearts.
Spencer Sleyon, 22, lives in Harlem, New York. On Friday, he traveled more than 1,000 miles to meet Rosalind "Roz" Guttman at her retirement community in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Their friendship began last summer when they squared off on Words With Friends, an online game similar to Scrabble. They eventually played more than 300 games against each other.
Recently, Pastor Amy Butler of the Riverside Church in Manhattan agreed to set up a meeting with Spencer and Roz. The pastor also flew to Florida with him.
The 22-year-old shared photos of the real-life encounter on Twitter, with the caption: “So last summer I randomly met this 80 y/o on Words With Friends. We played 300+ games together and she actually ended up becoming a good friend of mine. Today I got to go to Florida and meet her in person.”
