ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Protests erupted Thursday as the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees considered budget cuts and layoffs.

Several protesters laid down in front of the board as they tried to vote on a budget-cutting proposal. The school blames the cuts on reduced state funding and declining enrollment.

Despite the protests, the board voted, with a spokesperson saying all budget items were approved based on recommendations of the Budget Response Committee.

The board approved a plan that would reduce up to 70 faculty positions and up to 25 non-faculty positions. It would also increase in cost-sharing of employee insurance premiums.
