ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The puck officially dropped for Winterfest at the Arch. The opening night of their event series was called "One Nation Night" which honored the partnership between the Blues and Cardinals and the way they unite St. Louis.

A ceremonial puck drop between Blues owner Tom Stillman and Cardinals Senior Vice President Dan Farrell started the night off.

"You don't see that in every city and I think that shows what a great sports city that we have here," said Ryan McClure, with the Gateway Arch Foundation, the organizers of Winterfest. They work with the Blues for Winterfest every year, but this is the first year they've brought the Cardinals into the mix.

Fans have picked up on the camaraderie between the two professional sports teams.

"They're always kind of hyping each other up, so it gets the city excited about both," said Sarah Zalaudek, who attended One Nation Night with her two kids.

Team spirit was at the top of its game for the event. The Hoven's brought their newborn son.

"We're obviously huge Blues fans his name is Vladimir, like after Tarasenko," said Alyssa Hoven, "We're going to hopefully get some autographs and see if we can win some of the prizes."

The fans were all rewarded when Blues player Magnus Paajarvi showed up to sign autographs. Food trucks and a pop-up brewery were also there to entertain. But the iconic Winterfest entertainment is ice skating and that was the biggest hit.

"She's probably going to be starting ice skating lessons soon so this might be her first little go around to see how she likes it," said Zalaudek.

"I want to get the boys involved in hockey," said David Kerr, who came out to One Nation Night with his two sons.
