ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A woman is now in custody after fatally shooting a man in St. Charles Saturday.

Karen Reisinger, 31, was arrested Sunday morning for first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 26-year-old Carlton Ford.

St. Charles Police Department said officers responded the apartment on San Juan Drive and found Ford laying at the front door of Reisinger's apartment, wounded by gunshots. Ford was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Reisinger told police Ford came into her apartment with a gun, and in self-defense she shot Ford at least twice with a handgun.

Investigation later revealed Ford was at Reisinger's apartment earlier in the day Saturday. The disturbance went unreported.

During this earlier incident, police said Ford and another person came into Reisinger's apartment demanding money and drugs.

Reisinger told police Ford had a gun and sprayed pepper spray at her and her family members, including Reisinger's daughter.

Ford and the other subject left the apartment with an undisclosed amount of money and drugs.

Then at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Ford knocked on Reisinger's apartment door. She grabbed a handgun in the apartment, and then her boyfriend unlocked the door.

Moments after the door opened, Reisinger fired one shot at Ford, causing him to fall to the ground. She then fired a second shot while he was on the ground.

During the shooting, two children between the ages of 4 and 10 were in another room in the apartment.

The children, Reisinger and her boyfriend were all unharmed in the incident.

Reisinger's bond is set at $250,000.
