17-year-old charged in connection with St. Louis County carjacking

Police have charged a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a carjacking that occurred in the city of Northwoods Thursday.

Bernard Kent is charged with one count of robbery, one count of armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest by fleeing, and leaving the scene of an accident.

On Thanksgiving, officers were called to a report of a robbery. A victim reported that a man with a gun ordered her out of the car and she immediately took her kids and exited.

Police say a three men and a woman entered the car and drove off. An officer later saw the car and attempted to stop it. The suspect driver immediately went onto the highway and hit several cars during the chase near Ferguson and Bartmer.

Once the car crash, the suspects took off running. Officers eventually caught up to the suspect and took him into custody. During an investigation, Kent admitted to using a gun to take the vehicle during the carjacking.
