LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A Lincoln County woman has been charged with felony neglect of a child after police came to her house to check on the well-being of a child.

Monday evening police responded to the 1200 block of Ridge Road in Lincoln County to check on the well-being of an 11-year-old boy. The boy was thought to be missing after police were given a tip that the boy's guardian was looking for him, but she had not told police he was missing.

After several hours of searching, officers found the boy along the 1800 block of Highway W in Foley.

Officers said they learned the boy's guardian, 56-year-old Irene Arias of Lincoln County, had called a friend to pick up the boy.

Detectives learned the boy would often stay at Arias' home alone with no care and no running water for several months.

Police said the boy told them water was often stolen from the neighbor's house and that Arias taught him how to steal.

Arias was taken into custody. She admitted to smoking marijuana in the house with the boy inside. She also admitted to sending the boy to the neighbor's house for water, but she denied teaching him how to steal.

Arias is charged with felony Neglect of a Child and misdemeanor Unlawful Transaction with Child and is in Lincoln County jail under a $5,000 bond.
