Jay Bouwmeester hasn’t yet cracked the regular season lineup for the Blues in the 2017-2018 campaign, but his time could be coming soon.
The Blues announced Monday they have activated Bouwmeester from injured reserve, meaning he will be eligible to return to lineup as early as Tuesday night when St. Louis hosts Edmonton at Scottrade Center.
"A quality player like 'Bo,' he's an important piece to our game," Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo said in the team’s press release. "He's a guy, with his skating ability, his defensive game, he does so many little things that help you win hockey games. We have to get him back and get him up to speed here quickly… We don't expect his game to be exactly where it's going to be five or 10 games from now. We have to understand he's missed a lot of time, but his experience will make his transition come along quickly."
Bouwmeester was injured back in the beginning of training camp when he took a puck off his ankle during a team scrimmage on September 17th. Originally expected to be re-evaluated after three weeks, Bouwmeester was sidelined for almost nine weeks, missing the Blues’ first 21 games of the season.
The 31-year-old defenseman played in 81 games last season, tallying 14 assists and scoring one goal.
