ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

With the passing of notorious serial killer Charles Manson, many are recounting the trial and the investigation that shook the nation.

A former News 4 reporter had a significant role in the Manson murder investigation.

Al Wiman spent nearly thirty-years here at News 4, but was previously a reporter in Los Angeles.

Wiman helped police find crucial evidence in the Manson trials.

Los Angeles police could not find the blood soaked clothes of one of the Manson followers who committed the murder of Sharon Tate. With the help of Wiman, police were able to locate the clothes and charge the Manson follower.

The newspaper clipping from Al’s discovery still hang in his study. Wiman was later mentioned in the book “Helter Skelter” as well as being portrayed in a made for TV about the case.
