HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Hazelwood Southeast Middle School is no longer on lockdown.

The school, located at 918 Prigge Road, went on lockdown late Monday morning after an attempted carjacking on the school's parking lot. There were no injuries.

The suspect eventually ran from the scene.

The principal of Hazelwood Southeast Middle School sent the following note to parents:

Good Afternoon this is Dr. Chauncey Granger, principal at Hazelwood Southeast Middle School. Given parents’ right to know and as indicated in my earlier message, I want to provide you with an update and some alarming information of what occurred at outside our building earlier today.

This morning school administrators noticed an unknown male assailant with what appeared to be a handgun in the parking lot. Therefore, we immediately put the school on lockdown. The police were contacted and immediately responded. We were notified that an adult female was the victim of an attempted carjacking by gun point on our campus.

The building has been on lockdown for approximately two hours, as this is an active investigation. St. Louis County police and K-9 unit are still in the area.

All students were safe at all times as this occurred outside of our building. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my staff, SRO, and the St. Louis County Police for their diligence in handling this matter as quickly as possible.

To ensure the safety of students and staff, we will not be allowing any outside activity for the remainder of the day. As an added security measure we will have an increased police presence in the area during dismissal.
