Homicide detectives investigating ‘suspicious death’ in South City

SOUTH ST.LOUIS (MOVE.com) – The homicide unit of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a suspicious death of a 61-year-old man.

Detectives say Phillip Campbell, 61, was found critically injured in the 3600 block of Dunnica on Oct. 28 around 11:30 p.m.

On Oct. 30, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was notified by the victim’s family member that Campbell was possiblly assaulted two days before and he was admitted to a local hospital.

On Friday, police was notified that Campbell died from his injuries at an area hospital.

After an autopsy was conducted, the Medical Examiner reported the cause of death is “undetermined” and pending additional investigation.

Homicide detectives are looking into the case as a “suspicious death”.

Police say they do not have any lead on suspects at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
