ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

The St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that a plan to place a solid waste transfer site near the Family Arena not go forward.

A vote on the matter was held Wednesday night as many nearby residents voiced their concerns.

“I am very concerned, I have been a homeowner here for about 10 years,” said Tom Szelag.

The site where the proposed 8-acre solid waste transfer station would go is about 500 feet from Szelag’s home. The site is along South River Road and the Arena Parkway near the Family Arena and the Katy Trail.

Metro Fill Development LLC, wants to hold residential waste at the site until moving it to a landfill

Szelag added he is concerned about the health hazard from decaying trash, declining property values and traffic.

One other resident who spoke to News 4 also cited health concerns.

Even though the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend the project not go forward, the final decision is with the St. Charles County Council, which will take up the issue on December 4.
