ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Renovations are underway at one popular Forest Park location where organizers hope will become one of St Louis’ premiere sports fields.

Central Fields currently hosts big events such Lou Fest and the Great Forest Park Balloon Fest.

Crews are now working to renovate the nearly 30-acre site with four soccer fields, three rugby fields and a new concession stand among other improvements.

The fields are expected to be ready for use by Fall 2018.

“This is going to be promoted as one of the city’s premiere fields for soccer and rugby now,” said David Lenczycki, Dir. of Planning and Projects for the Forest Park Forever Leadership.

Central Fields is just one of the areas around the park that are undergoing a $5.8 million renovation, money which mostly comes from private donations.

The project is a part of the 1995 Forest Park Master Plan.

News 4 is teaming up with Forest Park Forever and holding an all-day telethon on December 13 at the News 4 studios.
