ST. LOUIS (KMOV.COM) -- A witness tells News 4 he saw a large of group of teens attack a man on a South City sidewalk for no apparent reason.

The witness, who only gave his first name, Nate, said he saw the entire assault as he was rehabbing a building this past Sunday in the Dutchtown neighborhood.

A 60-year-old man was sitting out and enjoying the afternoon, when, “One kid him in the face," Nate said. Others knocked the man to the ground, then ran off before police could get there.

Alderwoman Cara Spencer said St. Louis Police have assured her they are aware of the assault, but they have not been able to locate the victim.

"We got to start addressing the quality of life issues,” Spencer said. “"Just this week I had several cars sideswiped on South Compton by a car driving 80 miles an hour. There's a feeling that there is a sense of lawlessness when that's taking place."

That lawlessness is what Nate said he witnessed as the victim staggered to run away from the assault.

"I don’t know what happens to you if you get to the point where this is acceptable to treat somebody like that,” he said. “It's despicable."

This is not the first incident like this. There have been other reports of groups of teens in Dutchtown vandalizing and being violent.
