JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The Missouri Highway Patrol is trying to find the driver responsible for what is being called a "road rage" incident that led to five cars being damaged.

Officials believe a man driving a small gray passenger vehicle caused traffic delays on Interstate 55 in Jefferson County Tuesday morning.

MSHP officials said two different incidents led to a multi-vehicle crash that caused lane closures on the interstate near Highway M from 6:30 to 8 a.m.

A woman who was involved in the first incident told News 4 she was driving down the interstate when she noticed a dark vehicle following too close so she pumped her breaks. The male driver then honked, drove around her car, gave her the middle finger and almost clipped her vehicle. The woman said she drove to a nearby gas station to call her insurance company following the incident.

According to MSHP, the male driver then continued up the road and caused a four-vehicle crash at Highway M. During that crash, one of the vehicles flipped on its side.

Trooper Dallas Thompson says the driver who caused the crash mostly has some kind of front-end damage to his car.

The Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information to call them.
