ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A new Emergency Operations Center in St. Charles County will bring all the emergency resources under one roof and help make response time faster.

For decades, the Emergency Management Director has operated out of a cramped room in the basement of the jail. The dispatch and 911 operations are in Wentzville and the Department of Emergency Communications is located in the City of St. Charles. But the new building off of TR Hughs Boulevard behind the St Charles County Police Department will make everything run more smoothly.

“It’s going to bring all these services together under one roof instead of getting on the phone or getting on the radio and talking to each other, we can talk to them across the table and deploy those resources more immediately,” said Capt. Chris Hunt, the Emergency Management Director.

The new building is 30,000 square feet and with its proximity to the County Police Department, it will create a public safety campus. The new EOC can withstand an earthquake and an EF4 tornado, so if the worst does happen, they can keep the emergency response going.

The walls will be lined with the latest technology to help not only the natural disasters like flooding and winter storms the county deals with every year, but the emergencies they hope they never have to deal with.

“Unfortunately now you have to deal with terrorist attacks or man made disasters,” said Hunt.

The construction began in March and is expected to be completed by August 2018.
