GODFREY. Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Madison County’s Sheriff Office says a couple returning home from a night out with friends was confronted at gunpoint by masked men.

The victims told deputies that on their way home the suspects, who were in a white, older four-door vehicle, reportedly cut them off as they turned onto Union School Road.

Two men armed with guns and wearing hoodies exited their vehicle, approached the victims and demanded money, according to police.

Police say one of the suspects struck the victims’ driver-side door window with a gun, shattering the glass. Not only did the suspects cause damage to the victims’ vehicle, they also hit one of them across the head with the gun.

According to police, the suspects continued to demand money from the victims. When the victims would not cooperate, the suspects began to search the interior of their vehicle. While the suspects were searching the car, the victims were able to run from the area.

The victim who was struck by the gun suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention at the scene.
