EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The boys’ basketball coach at East St. Louis Senior High School has been suspended as district officials investigate an audio recording of a profanity-laden practice-time rant.

In April, Stetson Hairston was hired to coach the team, whose season begins Dec. 5.

According to the Belleville News-Democrat, in the recording, Hairston is heard berating his team with coarse language. At one point during the recording, the 2000 Belleville East graduate can be heard calling his players “losers.”

The school district issued the following statement:

Coach Stetson Hairston has been relieved of his coaching duties and placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted. Beyond that, the District does not publicly comment on personnel matters.

Sources inside the school say the video may have been recorded over the summer and brought forth by a player not on the team. Hairston is on paid leave during the investigation.
