NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

According to Hazelwood West High School administration, a student was released to the custody of his parent after bringing a firearm into the school.

Hazelwood Police Department was called to investigate the incident around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. When police arrived, the school resource officers and school security proceeded to the student's classroom.

While being escorted, a handgun fell from the student’s pants, police say. School resource officers took the student into custody along with seizing the weapon.

The weapon was found to be loaded with five rounds in the magazine but none in the chamber of the weapon.

After officials determined that there was no immediate threat to anyone, the student was released to the custody of his parent.

A disciplinary hearing will be held by the Hazelwood School District concerning the juvenile.
